Chikungunya Virus

Shikungunya is brought on by virus genus Alphavirus

Symptoms


- Acute fever of 40 degree celcius
- Accompanied by red rashes, muscle aches, joint aches, eye aches or bleeding along the skin
- Maybe accompanied by itches
- Similar to symptom of Dengue fever and rubella but not life-threatening
- Affect both adults and children but will be severer in adults
- The symptoms may subside within 1-12 weeks

Treatment


There is no specific vaccine or treatment for Shikungunya, must be treated by symptoms
- Take pain relievers to reduce fever (do not take Aspirin this will cause bleeding)
- Drink lots of fluid and get plenty of rest
- Clean body with wet cloth to reduce temperature
