Understand Norovirus

Norovirus is a type of virus in the gastrointestinal disease group that can spread easily and rapidly, surviving for days on surfaces or objects.

It can be transmitted through various channels:

  • Consuming undercooked food
  • Drinking water contaminated with the virus
  • Eating unwashed fruits and vegetables
  • Direct contact with an infected person
  • Touching objects contaminated with the virus

Recognizable symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and possibly low-grade fever, headache, and body aches, typically appearing within 12-48 hours after exposure to the virus.

Preventive measures include:

  • Thoroughly washing hands with soap for 20 seconds following the 7-step handwashing technique
  • Avoiding unclean water and food
  • Frequently cleaning toys
  • Infected individuals should avoid preparing food for others.
